The Metaverse is a hot topic used by many different businesses, primarily Facebook, as it tries to get its new name meta into the mainstream reference. Nike has just sold an NFT non-fungal token sneaker in the Metaverse for $8,000. This virtual sneaker design is unique in its own right and there are only 20,000 sneakers available. The purchase can be made with crypto coin valued between $7,500 and $9,000. Just keep in mind these are not real life shoes and are likely not to be available in the real world. Last December Adidas release 30,000 pairs of digital shoes. The competition works in the Metaverse because people are spending more time online shopping and playing video games then ever before due to the pandemic. So brands like Nike and Adidas are trying to tap into this market by releasing virtual sneakers that can only be bought with cryptocurrency. It will be interesting to see how this trend develops over the next few years and if more brands jump on board.
