Being the President of the Rotary Club of Hamilton comes with a lot of responsibilities—running board meetings, supporting our projects, and, yes, making sure our golf tournament doesn’t end in flames. (Literally. Thank you to Past President Alex Moroz for putting out the BBQ fire before the fire department arrived!)
This year, I had the unique honour of not only representing Rotary but also wearing my other hat as President of Vacu-Man Furnace and Duct Cleaning, a proud sponsor of the event. And what an event it was.
For the first time, we merged the Rotary Golf Classic with the Children’s Fund Golf Tournament and teamed up with our friends at Corus Radio—Y108 and Energy 95.3. Add in our title sponsor Stantec, a lineup of generous hole sponsors, and more than 105 golfers, and you’ve got a recipe for something special.
The result? Over $30,000 raised—double last year’s total—with every dollar going directly to children’s programs in Hamilton and the surrounding region. That’s impact you can measure both on the scorecard and in the lives of kids right here in our community.
The Day in a Nutshell
Paul Gordon quarterbacked the tournament like it was the Super Bowl, and yes—he won. Heather greeted golfers with the kind of warmth you usually need sunscreen for. Anita and Lisa sold passports like pros, Dr. Joan Heels ran the kissing hole fundraiser like a champ, and Shelley’s baked goods powered golfers through all 18 holes (and probably a few sand traps too).
And then there was the golf itself. Whether you’re the kind of golfer who talks about pars, eagles, and birdies—or the kind who just gives the golf balls some much-needed exercise—our best-ball shotgun format made sure everyone had a laugh, felt included, and had a shot at some great prizes, including tickets to see the Leafs.
Oh, and let’s not forget the live broadcasts from Corus Radio. Having Y108 and Energy 95.3 on the course brought an energy that was contagious—even if their swings were sometimes questionable.
Looking Forward
This wasn’t just about a day on the golf course. It was about community, teamwork, and giving kids a brighter future. With the momentum from this year, 2026 is already shaping up to be even bigger, better, and hopefully with fewer BBQ emergencies.
As President of both Vacu-Man and the Rotary Club of Hamilton, I couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved. To our golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters—thank you for making this year’s Rotary + Children’s Fund Golf Classic such a huge success.
See you on the course next year!
